Renew 5-Year-Validity Passports

If you are renewing a five-year passport or replacing a limited passport you must apply in person.  Click here to make an appointment in Kaohsiung.

Parents of children under sixteen, please note the additional requirements below. 

Applicants whose previous U.S. passport expired more than one year ago may be asked to provide additional valid photo ID (showing name in English), such as a Taiwan passport or U.S. driver's license.  The following items are required:

  1. Passport
  2. Completed application form (DS-11) with Taiwan contact number and address
  3. Two 2” x 2” (5cm x 5cm) color passport photos (head size 1” to 1 3/8”) with a white background, taken within the past 6 months. For details about the photo size, please click here.
  4. US$105 fee, payable by cash (NT$) or with a major credit card.  Applicants over sixteen applying for their first ten-year passport, and adult applicants whose passports expired more than five years ago must pay a total fee of US$135.
  5. A stamped (NT$50 postage) self-addressed envelope

Your passport will be ready in approximately 2-3 weeks and will be sent to you via rregistered mail through the Taiwan post office. Your previous passport will be cancelled and returned to you during your appointment. AIT will not cancel valid visas remaining in the old passport.

If you don't have a self-addressed envelope with NT$ 50 postage, we use a courier service which will return the passport to the address you indicate to them. The courier service will call you before delivering, will require your signature, and will collect a delivery fee of NT$ 170 in cash.

If you have changed your name, bring the original or a certified true copy of the court order or marriage certificate.  If you are requesting other changes, include all supporting documentation.
